Nikujaga

Nikujaga is a Japanese simmered dish of meat, potatoes, and vegetables.
It has a salty-sweet taste with soy sauce, sugar, and mirin.

INGREDIENTS

  • Potato : 3 pieces
  • Onion : 1 piece
  • Carrot : 1 piece
  • Beef or Pork : 200g
  • Thread konjac : 100g
  • Snow pea : moderate amount
  • Vegetable oil : 1 teaspoon
  • Water : 1 cup
  • Soy sauce : 2 tablespoons
  • Mirin(a type of sake with low alcohol and high sugar content) : 2 tablespoons
  • Sake : 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar : 2 tablespoons

RECIPE

  1. Cut the potatoes, onions, carrots, and Thread konjac into bite-sized pieces. Remove the streaks from the snow peas.
  2. Lightly boil the thread konjac in hot water.
  3. Put the vegetable oil in a pan, turn the heat to medium, and fry the potatoes, onions, and carrots.
  4. Add water and bring to a boil, then add beef.
  5. Add soy sauce, mirin, sake and sugar and mix.
